Allan Phang has departed his leading role at AirAsia Esports, the esports initiative by Malaysian airline AirAsia.

Allan Phang started working on AirAsia Esports in September 2017 after working in other departments at the airline.

Phang said that he had a personal revelation that led him to decide on taking a “new challenge in life.” AirAsia declined to comment about Phang’s replacement.

Before heading up AirAsia Esports, Allan Phang spent several years at the airline in different roles – working across marketing, partnerships, business development, culture, engagement, and branding.

In a farewell message posted on Facebook, Phang thanked Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, Co-founder and Chairman of AirAsia, for “his mentorship and entrusting me with AirAsia Esports projects and supporting our AirAsia Allstars Esport Club jerseys campaign in creating internal awareness on esports.”

During his tenure at AirAsia Esports, Phang forged partnerships with Razer, Alienware, and Secretlab. The airline also announced in September 2018 that it would be building an esports hub in Malaysia alongside WESG and AgriMind.
