The new Three Lions boss Sam Allardyce has suggested the 18-year-old forward will not be considered for international selection if he continues to be left out of the XI at Manchester United
Sam Allardyce has warned Marcus Rashford that he faces the prospect of not being selected for England duty if he does not feature more often for Manchester United.
The 18-year-old, who was one of the stand-out performers for United in second half of the 2015-16 campaign, has yet to feature in the Premeir League under Jose Mourinho.
And England manager Allardyce has conceded that he will find it difficult to call up the young forward if he continues to be left out at Old Trafford.
He told reporters: “It [Rashford’s lack of first-team football] makes it harder for me now to select him, despite how exciting he was last year and how he burst on the scene.
“At such a young age, do I say: ‘Go play in the Under-21s? Get used to international football there, play regularly there and it will help you eventually, hopefully break into the Manchester United team and then break into the England senior team.’ You’ve got all those scenarios to consider.”
