Liverpool start their 2016-17 EPL campaign with a convincing away win over Arsenal, thanks to the sublime performance of our Dashing Man of the Match.
Liverpool produced a stellar performance to come back from a goal down, score four past Arsenal in the space of 17 minutes of playing time and bag all three points, but not before nearly letting Arsenal back into the game themselves, in their EPL season opener at the Emirates Stadium.
Both sets of the fans must have felt a roller coaster of emotions during the match. Theo Walcott could have opened the scoring at the half hour mark after the home side were given a penalty after a foul by Alberto Moreno, but his attempt was saved by Simon Mignolet. But it did not matter, as barely a minute later Walcott would make up for the miss to eventually score and make it 1-0.
Just as it looked like the Gunners would go for the break with the lead, the visitors equalised one minute into the first half injury time, when our Dashing Man of the Match Philippe Coutinho curled his freekick from 25 meters out into the top left corner.
And Jurgen Klopp’s team talk during halftime seemed to work, as after the break the Reds added three more goals. Just four minutes into the second half, Adam Lallana gave them the lead, before Coutinho added his second of the match and Liverpool’s third in the 56th minute. New signing Sadio Mane then made it 4-1 in the 63rd minute, and for awhile it looked like the Gunners would open their season in embarrassment.
However an injury to Coutinho which required him to be subbed off for Emre Can in the 70th minute halted Liverpool’s rout, and Arsenal found their footing again, to their fans’ relief.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled one back for them in the 64th minute, before Calum Chambers nodded in their third goal 10 minutes later.
Although the visiting fans then had to endure a nail-biting final 15 minutes of the match, Arsenal failed to find the equaliser and the match ended in a 4-3 win to the visitors.
