eSports is finally getting the recognition it deserves!
We’ve seen a tremendous growth in eSports these past few years and it seems that this unique field has a pretty bright and promising future.
Our local eSports players have also made a name for themselves and helped put Malaysia on the map locally and internationally by winning numerous tournaments and raking in millions in winnings.
So, fans and eSports players will surely be pleased to hear the news we’re about to share because the magnitude of it is quite significant.
eSports will officially be a medal sport in the next installment of the SEA Games, happening next year in the Philippines.
According to ESPN Philippines, the new sporting category will be accredited by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, and six gold medals will be up for grabs on three platforms — two each for console, mobile and PC.
eSports Malaysia secretary-general Rinie Ramli is elated that eSports is finally getting recognised at a distinguished sporting event like the SEA Games.
We can’t wait to see what other categories will be contested and who will make the cut in representing Malaysia.
