The timeline is becoming clearer as it is revealed that the season will not begin before December 25. The Christmas game is one of the periods that generates the largest viewership for the NBA. As it is, the starting date still remains unclear.
NBA have also pushed back the NBA draft, initially scheduled for Oct 16 and Free Agency scheduled for Oct 18. A large part of the reason for doing so it to allow the league to negotiate the salary cap numbers for the next season. The draft date is currently set for Nov 18.
In fact, delaying the start of NBA 2020-2021 season may have its benefits. Much of the NBA schedule collides with the more popular NFL.
